Identify the Cause for Your Signal Loss

Not getting a clear signal on your TV? We're here to help – let's start by narrowing down the cause.

The best place to start when your TV is not displaying a clear signal is by taking a look at the screen.

If there are no words appearing at all (i.e. there's a solid black or blue screen where you should be seeing a news channel) or the TV says "no signal" on a plain black screen, the issue may be an incorrect setup. If you see this, take a look at the "Black/Blue/Snowy" section below.

If you see error codes on the screen (with specific messages like 002, 015 signal loss), we call that a "Complete or Partial Signal Loss." If this matches your screen, start with the "Signal Loss" section below.

What do you see on your TV screen?

Black/Blue/Snowy Screen

  • A black screen with the words "No Signal",
  • A blue or static-filled screen, or
  • A solid black screen

This issue is typically a result of the TV being on the wrong input or having cables connected incorrectly. We'll have you check some connections between your equipment and make sure the receiver is plugged in all the way.

Signal Loss Error Message

  • Error message 002 saying "The satellite signal has been lost", or
  • Error message 015 saying "Complete Signal Loss"

This issue is usually a result of the satellite dish being in a slightly wrong position, damaged or malfunctioning equipment, severe weather, or something blocking the dish's view of the sky.

Your signal strength can affect the delivery of your live programming, though with a DVR you can still access recorded content. If the signal loss is partial, your receiver will automatically start the process of acquiring the signal again. With a complete signal loss, knowing the source of the issue will help determine the best solution.
